Know Your Qi Quotient

Family_healing_meditatio_20191020-224904_1

What is Qi and why do we need to know a quotient related to it? Pronounced Chee phonetically, it is prana, life source, vitality, and energy. It is what produces the sparkle in the eyes, the spring in a step and the luster of a complexion.

Both complete models of traditional eastern medicine have references to Qi. Ayurvedic and Oriental medicine use the concept of Qi to balance and harmonize the body. In Oriental medicine the Qi travels through pathways aptly named meridians. Each meridian is connected to a primary organ of the body. Each organ is nourished by the Qi flowing smoothly and freely to and fro. Difficulties arise when here is too little Qi and/or it is not moving smoothly and freely throughout the meridians.

Acupuncture Can Relieve Allergies!

Family_healing_meditation

Using acupuncture and herbal remedies is not as far fetched as you may believe in relief of allergies. While spring and summer are the seasons of the year that bring us outdoors, many people are unable to enjoy these warmer months due to uncomfortable allergy symptoms. Traditional Chinese Medicine can help bring relief of symptoms, correct imbalances of the immune system, prevent the occurrence of infection, and allow healing of tissues of the sinuses.

What are allergies?
In allopathic or western medicine allergies are defined as a hyperactive immune response and treated with drugs to suppress the immune system. This suppression is in an effort to reduce the annoying symptoms of allergic response such as nasal congestion, itchy eyes, sneezing and runny nose just to list a few. This treatment only focuses on the symptoms never addressing the root cause of the problem. It is estimated that 50 million North Americans are affected by allergic conditions and the cost of allergies in the United States is more than $10 billion dollars yearly.

Acupuncture and Your Child’s Health

Acupuncture may not be the first method of treatment that comes to mind when deciding which path to follow for your child’s health. In fact the idea of having your child subjected to multiple needle placements may be horrifying to you. But it shouldn’t be. Acupuncture, one of the modalities in Oriental medicine is a safe, natural and effective alternative to other more traditional methods. Of course we must remember that complimentary medicine is not a replacement for sound allopathic care. Obviously if you are in an emergency situation you would seek the nearest emergency hospital rather than alternative care.

We must also keep in mind that while allopathic medicine is outstanding in diagnostics, surgery and emergency medicine it has a more challenging time with chronic degenerative or idiopathic (unknown cause) health issues.

The Power of Positive Thinking | Sarasota, FL

Is it really a secret? The power of positive thinking that is? Is it really adequate to just think good thoughts? Will looking through rose colored glasses truly give us the winning life we so fervently desire? I attempted to answer these questions by asking an eight year old girl, who promptly answered me with a shoulder shrug and “I don’t know”. She then walked away to finish the cardboard dragon she was making in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

Maybe that’s the real answer; we should all stop worrying about positive thinking and just be positive about something, anything like making a cardboard Chinese dragon.
